GREETINGS & INTRODUCTION
HOW DO I SAY ‘HELLO’?
There are two different ways of greeting a person. First we will learn the formal way.
FORMAL GREETINGS
We use the following phrases according to the time of the day we meet them.
Good Morning!
Example:
Good morning, Teacher!
2. NOON TILL 4 IN THE EVENING
Good Afternoon!
Example:
Good afternoon, Officer!
3. FROM 4 TILL LATE NIGHT
Good Evening!
Example:
Good evening, Uncle!
4. WHEN WE TAKE LEAVE AT NIGHT
Good Night!
Example:
Good night, Sir!
5. WHEN WE TAKE LEAVE DURING THE DAY
Good day to you!
Have a good day!
Example:
Good day to you, Sir!
Have a good day, Officer!

INFORMAL GREETINGS
THEY ARE WORDS USED TO GREET OUR FRIENDS, RELATIVES, OR THE PEOPLE WE MEET OFTEN.
‘HI’
Example:
Hello Shawn!
Hi Jane!
WHEN WE TAKE LEAVE
Farewell!
Bye, bye!
See you, later!

SURVIVAL PHRASES
Here are some sentences which might come in handy for beginners:

CONVERSATION
MEETING A PERSON
Now let us look at a very FORMAL conversation:
(Let us assume that this happens in the morning at 10)
- Student: Good Morning, Sir!
- Teacher: Good Morning, Raju!
- Student: Sir! This is my project report.
- Teacher: Very good, leave it on my desk.
- Student: Thank you, Sir!
- Teacher: Welcome!
- Student: Good day to you, Sir!
- Teacher: Good day to you too!
(Let us assume that this happens in the evening at 6)
- Student: Good Evening, Sir!
- Teacher: Good Evening, Raju!
- Student: Sir! This is my project report.
- Teacher: Very good, leave it on my desk.
- Student: Thank you, Sir!
- Teacher: Welcome!
- Student: Good night, Sir!
- Teacher: Good night!
In a formal conversation, you have keep in mind the time you meet a person, as well as the time when you take leave.
Now let us look at an INFORMAL conversation:
- Raju: Hello Sanjana!
- Sanjana: Hi Raju!
- Raju: How are you doing?
- Sanjana: I am fine. Thank you. How are you?
- Raju: Fine. Not bad.
- Raju: How is your brother?
- Sanjana: Yes, He is also good.
- Raju: Okay! Go to go! See you later!
- Sanjana: Bye! See you!
In an informal greeting, you do not have to worry about the time you meet the person. A Hello and a Bye is good enough.
